Our Middle School Program

The Dream Center Academy middle-school program is intentionally designed to keep our students on target in middle school and prepared for a successful transition to 9th grade. We provide our students with a five-week summer program and a daily after school program throughout their middle-school years.

Summer programming operates Monday – Friday 8:00am to 3:00pm including breakfast, lunch, and snack. Morning classes focus on language arts, math, science, and social studies, and afternoon classes provide enrichment clubs. Each grade engages in two field trips and one college tour during Summer Academy, visiting a different NC college annually.

Afterschool programming operates Monday – Thursday from 3:15-6:15pm. Each day includes healthy snacks, recreation, grade-level community meetings, homework support, academic tutoring or enrichment clubs, and team time. Throughout the school year, students participate in field trips, service projects, and character development sessions.

DCA’s middle school program serves students from the summer before they enter middle school through their summer before entering high school. Once students enter high school, our high-school programming begins.

Summer academic classes

Summer Academy provides core instruction in English language arts, math, science, and social studies 4 days a week that match State standards, incorporate best practices, and prepare students for the upcoming school year.

Academic tutoring

Academic Tutoring is provided to meet the individual needs and abilities of each student. Students meet individually with an instructor for intervention based on their specific academic needs. Certified instructors provide tutoring in reading and math.

Enrichment clubs

Summer and after school clubs offer students an array of enrichment activities to broaden their experiences, support personal development, and create a desire to learn. DCA offers activities in health and wellness, arts, and science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEAM).

Field trips

Field Trips broaden our students’ experiences, support their personal development, and include educational, business, physical, and service enrichment activities.

College tours

College Tours expose our students to their options for higher education and encourage them to build their aspirations and to begin planning their academic futures.

Community Service Projects

Community Service Projects promote community building, cultural awareness, and teamwork. Community Service strengthens our students’ desire to lead and serve their community.

Our application process

How To Apply for DCA

All DCA students participate in an application process.  DCA seeks a diverse group of students who each bring a unique and valuable perspective of Gaston to the Academy.  We look for students who show some interest or spark in school and who would benefit from an encouraging, enriching and supportive academic environment. DCA seeks families who are committed to the student’s success and are willing to fully participate in the Dream Center Academy program.
